RED SEA BATTLE OF ALBERTA GIVEAWAY
OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.
1. Sponsor
The Red Sea Battle of Alberta Giveaway (the “Contest”) is sponsored and administered by Red Sea, La Crete, Alberta (the “Sponsor”).
This Contest is independently administered by Red Sea and is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or affiliated with the National Hockey League, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, or their respective affiliates.
2. Contest Period
The Contest begins on September 19, 2026 at 12:00 a.m. Mountain Time and ends on March 14, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time (the “Contest Period”).
All purchase entries must be earned during the Contest Period.
All no-purchase mail-in entries must be received by the Sponsor no later than March 14, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time. A postmark dated on or before March 14, 2027 is not sufficient if the entry is received after the Contest closes.
3. Eligibility
The Contest is open to legal residents of Alberta who have reached the age of majority in Alberta at the time of entry.
Employees, owners, representatives and agents of Red Sea, and members of their immediate households, are not eligible to enter.
The Contest is void where prohibited by law.
4. Purchase Method of Entry
During the Contest Period, an eligible entrant will receive one (1) Contest entry for each qualifying purchase of La Crete hockey merchandise from Red Sea.
For purposes of these Rules, a “qualifying purchase” means a completed purchase transaction containing at least one eligible La Crete hockey merchandise item.
Each qualifying purchase transaction receives one (1) entry, regardless of the number of qualifying products contained in that transaction or the total dollar value of the transaction.
There is no minimum purchase amount beyond the purchase of an eligible La Crete hockey merchandise item.
The entrant must follow the entry instructions provided by Red Sea, including providing any information or using any Contest code reasonably required by Red Sea to associate the qualifying purchase with the entrant.
5. No-Purchase Method of Entry
NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY TO ENTER THE CONTEST.
An eligible entrant may obtain one (1) Contest entry without making a purchase by completing all of the following requirements.
A. Exactly 1,000-Word Handwritten Essay
The entrant must personally handwrite an original essay answering:
“What does hockey mean to you?”
The essay must contain exactly 1,000 words.
An essay containing either fewer than 1,000 words or more than 1,000 words will not constitute an eligible entry.
The essay must be original and personally handwritten by the entrant. Typed, computer-generated, photocopied, mechanically reproduced or duplicated essays will not be accepted.
B. Passport-Sized Hockey Photograph
The entrant must include one printed passport-sized photograph depicting the entrant playing hockey.
The photograph must depict the person submitting the entry.
The entrant must have the right to provide the photograph.
The photograph will be collected for the purpose of administering and verifying the Contest entry and will not, solely by its submission, grant Red Sea permission to use the photograph for unrelated advertising.
C. Entrant Information
The entrant must clearly provide:
- Full legal name
- Complete mailing address
- Telephone number
- Email address
D. Mailing the Entry
The essay, photograph and required entrant information must be enclosed together in a sufficiently stamped envelope and mailed to:
RED SEA – BATTLE OF ALBERTA GIVEAWAY
10010 100ave
La Crete, Alberta
T0H 2H0
Each submission must be mailed separately.
Each complete submission satisfying all requirements of this section constitutes one (1) Contest entry.
No-purchase entries must be received by March 14, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time.
Lost, late, incomplete, illegible, damaged, misdirected, postage-due or otherwise non-compliant submissions will not constitute eligible entries.
6. Treatment of Entries
Each eligible Contest entry will be entered into the same final random draw regardless of whether the entry was obtained through a qualifying purchase or through the no-purchase method.
Once an entry has been determined eligible, an entry obtained through the no-purchase method has the same chance of being selected in the random draw as an entry obtained through the purchase method.
There is no predetermined maximum number of eligible entries.
The odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received during the Contest Period.
Disclosure of material information affecting the odds, along with the number and approximate value of prizes and geographic allocation, is required under the Competition Act.
7. Prize
There is one (1) prize available to be won.
The prize consists of:
Two (2) tickets to an Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames NHL game.
Game Date: April 5, 2027
Venue: Rodgers Place
Approximate Retail Value: $1,100 - $1,800 CAD
Unless expressly stated otherwise, transportation to and from the game, accommodations, parking, food, beverages and all other expenses associated with accepting or using the prize are the responsibility of the winner.
The prize must be accepted as awarded and cannot be redeemed through Red Sea for cash.
If circumstances beyond the Sponsor's reasonable control affect the scheduled game, tickets or availability of the prize, the Sponsor will administer the Contest and prize in accordance with applicable law and the applicable ticket terms.
The number and approximate value of prizes need to be fairly disclosed.
8. Winner Selection
After the Contest closes, one (1) potential winner will be selected by random draw from all eligible entries received during the Contest Period.
The draw will take place on or about March 15, 2027 in La Crete, Alberta.
The potential winner will be contacted using the contact information associated with their Contest entry.
Selection will be made randomly. Canadian promotional-contest rules require selection/distribution to be based on skill or random selection.
9. Skill-Testing Question
Being selected in the random draw does not automatically make an entrant the confirmed winner.
Before being declared the winner and receiving the prize, the selected entrant must correctly answer, without assistance, a mathematical skill-testing question administered by the Sponsor.
If the selected entrant fails to correctly answer the skill-testing question, the entrant will be disqualified and another potential winner may be randomly selected from the remaining eligible entries.
10. Contacting the Potential Winner
Red Sea will make reasonable attempts to contact the selected entrant using the telephone number and/or email address associated with their entry.
The selected entrant must respond within five (2) days of Red Sea's first attempt to contact them.
If the selected entrant:
- cannot be contacted;
- does not respond within five days;
- does not meet the eligibility requirements;
- fails to correctly answer the skill-testing question;
- cannot reasonably verify their identity;
- refuses the prize; or
- otherwise fails to comply with these Official Rules,
the selected entrant may be disqualified.
Red Sea may then conduct another random draw from the remaining eligible entries.
This process may continue until an eligible winner is confirmed.
11. Verification of Entries
All entries are subject to verification by Red Sea.
Red Sea reserves the right, subject to applicable law, to reject or disqualify an entry reasonably determined to be:
- incomplete;
- fraudulent;
- falsified;
- duplicated contrary to these Rules;
- submitted using false information;
- automatically generated;
- altered or manipulated;
- submitted by an ineligible entrant; or
- otherwise inconsistent with these Official Rules.
For no-purchase entries, Red Sea may verify that the essay contains exactly 1,000 words, that it is handwritten, that the required photograph is included, and that all other requirements in Section 5 have been satisfied.
12. No-Purchase Entries and Photographs
Photographs submitted through the no-purchase entry method will be used only as reasonably necessary to administer and verify Contest entries unless the entrant separately provides permission for another use.
Submission of a photograph does not automatically grant Red Sea permission to publish the photograph on social media, in advertising, on its website or in other promotional materials.
13. Privacy
Personal information collected in connection with the Contest will be used for purposes reasonably related to administering the Contest, including:
- verifying entries and eligibility;
- conducting the draw;
- contacting potential winners;
- confirming a winner;
- delivering the prize; and
- complying with applicable legal requirements.
Personal information will otherwise be handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws and Red Sea's applicable privacy practices.
14. Winner Announcement
After the potential winner has satisfied all requirements of these Official Rules and has been confirmed as the winner, Red Sea may announce the winner's name and community of residence, subject to applicable law and any required consent.
Any additional use of the winner's photograph, likeness or personal information for advertising or promotional purposes will be subject to any consent required by applicable law.
15. Tampering and Fraud
Any attempt to manipulate the Contest, manufacture fraudulent entries, falsify purchase records, impersonate another entrant, interfere with the random draw or otherwise circumvent these Official Rules may result in disqualification, subject to applicable law.
Red Sea reserves all rights and remedies available under applicable law.
16. Changes, Cancellation or Suspension
If circumstances beyond Red Sea's reasonable control materially interfere with the proper administration, security, integrity or fairness of the Contest, Red Sea reserves the right, subject to applicable law, to modify, suspend, cancel or terminate the Contest.
Where reasonably possible, Red Sea will administer eligible entries already received in a fair manner consistent with applicable law.
17. Errors
Red Sea is not responsible, to the extent permitted by applicable law, for technical, printing, typographical, administrative or communication errors that occur despite reasonable administration of the Contest.
If an error materially affects the fairness or integrity of the Contest, Red Sea may take reasonable corrective action consistent with applicable law.
18. Prize Distribution
Red Sea will make reasonable efforts to provide the prize to the confirmed winner promptly after the winner has satisfied all requirements contained in these Official Rules.
Canadian promotional-contest rules prohibit undue delay in distributing prizes.
19. NHL, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames
This Contest is conducted independently by Red Sea.
Unless expressly stated otherwise pursuant to an applicable authorization, the National Hockey League, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames and their respective owners, affiliates and organizations are not sponsors or administrators of this Contest and have not endorsed the Contest.
All trademarks and team names belong to their respective owners.
20. Governing Law
The Contest and these Official Rules are governed by applicable federal laws of Canada and the laws of the Province of Alberta.
The Criminal Code specifically addresses games of chance or mixed chance and skill involving payment of money or other valuable consideration. Federal Competition Bureau guidance consequently discusses providing an alternative means of entry to remove a purchase as the sole condition of participation.
21. Acceptance of Official Rules
By participating in the Contest, each entrant agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and by the Sponsor's administration of the Contest, subject in all cases to applicable law.
